THROUGH TWO-WAY COMMUNICATIONS
 IN GUIDANCE ...

Ours is a two-way communications process, where students take an active part in the evaluation process. We proceed from a solid base plan, and together we move our partners toward what is best for them.

We recommend that most students apply to more than one college. The College Guidance Partnership encourages an ambitious but realistic self-assessment and carefully-calculated search. For most students, this means application to a balanced list of six to nine colleges. The list should be comprised of two to three “reach” schools – tough to attain but achievable objectives -- two to three desirable, "on-target" schools where data shows that acceptance on the basis of qualifications is a fair expectation,  and two or three "likely to admit" schools clearly within reach.

FULL COMMITTEE-STYLE EVALUATIONS

The College Guidance Partnership employs the same committee-style evaluation system used by major colleges and universities. The college list we develop is the work product of  meetings involving advisors, students and parents -- not just one person's recommendations. We solicit a broad range of information at these joint counseling sessions in dedicated efforts to develop a profile of schools that best fit our partner's academic desires, social wants and special interests.

We couple our discussions of hard-number grades, class rankings, test scores and costs with diverse, but no less important talks on such topics as career preparation, scholarship opportunities, early decision paths, distance considerations and student quality-of-life.  We work with lists prepared by all parties to the partnership, review the selections of each and answer questions as they come up.

Armed with this information, our protégés are prepared to take a hard look at the choices developed and start to narrow them down. Assistance extends to the application process itself. We help our charges understand how it should be approached,  while imparting a clear understanding of the time lines that need to be observed, and the critical issues students and parents must understand for their dreams to be realized.

Once those proud notices of acceptance are in hand, we round out our services by conducting a final review where we work with our partners to determine the relative merits of the offers, judge the best choice, and walk away prepared to make decisions that result in the best college experience possible. That's our mutual reward.
